Reality is Overrated

The Rogue Element is known for their big room tech house, and electro productions. Their new album just dropped, and although most of the tracks fit the said genres, it does feature this pretty killer dub techno wobbler, complete with video game sounds, and wonky synths... it turns into a 4/4 style beat for the second half which is a bit of a let down...however that doesn't take away from how deadly the first 3 minutes are.

This one is happening on Friday in Vancouver, BC, and is hosted by one of my best mates Self Evident. I had to post this...cause the poster is so dope! Well done Ben.

Your Not Alone...

I just found a bunch of remixes by a fellow coming out of the UK, signing his cheques with the name Synamatix. (also a very popular search word in the ol' google, or so I've found). Mainly a dubstep producer but constantly dabbling in other realms of sound. I've found a ton of good stuff including a bomb remix of Benga & Coki's - Night (look for that one dubsteppers!!) Anyways, this guy likes to DJ!!! and as it states clearly on his myspace there is no party to big or to small! He wants to play them all. And I'm sure he'd do it well!

Here's a nice one for ya. Love-step! Not the hugest vocal enthusiast but I love this one.

Not Alone (Synamatix Remix) - Olive

GLK - Anything Worse

This is a super hype track by the MotherFucking Gaslamp Killer! I found it floating around on the internets, and thought our readers might enjoy a listen...it reminds me of older RJD2 stuff. More specifically The Horror on his Deadringer album...which just so happens to be one of my favorite beat albums of all time....

Anyway back to GLK...his debut ep is about to drop on Brainfeeder. Have a gander at this tune, and you'll quickly understand what all the hype is about...this tracks slays...haunting synths + ruff beats x spooky sampling = exactly what I need right now.

Gaslamp Killer - Anything Worse

Ginz Podcast

Ginz & Joker are juggernauts in the bass scene, mixing crunky grime & hip-hop, g-funk and dubstep with incredible sonic results. Mad whomp. Mad sexy. Check the Ginz mix for Data Transmission UK. This is the new sound. Thanks to my boy Ryan Rzo for the heads up.

Nod ya' head.

Ikonika - Phonelines VIP

Yeah...sometimes I front, sometimes I hate. I blame it on the crusty junglist/punk rocker that is always screwfacing just under my shiny brown veneer...but every now and then, even I have to give into a little hero worship. And with the way that I have been rinsing Ikonika's "Please" it is apparent that the worship is in full effect. So imagine my sense of excitement when I realized that she posted her track "Phonelines VIP" on Xlr8r for free at 320. I have not listened to it, in fact, I am actually at work on break, but I wanted everyone in the world to have it. If it's as rad as the other tracks she has produced, I say we need to build this girl a church...can I get an amen?!

We R DFRNT

Being on the deep and dubby tip as of late.. (well, as per usual...) I seem to find myself resorting back to this tasteful selection of deep movements, in my opinion a wide variety of nearly haunting but very pleasing sounds!! If you're into that kind of thing. I am, and DFRNT is a bit ... well, different! In a great way! His music slays, he has a strong but subtle style that carries through into every tune, they all GO SOMEWHERE!!!.. So, I'd say it's worth it to listen through to the end (and then follow with another) Music not being the only venture on his mind, he's the head to the Echodub label aswell as managing the Modus magazine. Check out both and if you look hard enough you'll find that they like to give out freebies. Quality freebies!

My fav as of late:

DJ Vadim Interview for XLR8R TV

I was fully touched by the story of DJ Vadim, and his fight with eye cancer last year. This video is basically him talking about his insights gained through this experience, and his views on the music industry in general...good stuff!

From Russia With...

Russia is not only know for it's supermodels, vodka, fantastic lomo cameras and indoor lazer light shows we can now put dubstep on the map. Blasta will be releasing his first EP 'the incredible adventures of kenzolika and quetzalcoatl among the air castles' on Argon Records. Everyone who follows this label knows that Nick Argon's taste is impeccable with releases from the likes of Tes la Rok, Clouds, Desto, Babylon System, Matty G etc...

And just as anyone would expect in a castle made out of air and bass...no wobbly over drive, just music to love up to.

Ghost Town Boot

It's time to wipe that 'dubserious' look off your face. It's time to skank. DJG has provided us with a special refix of Ghost Town. After being bumped around between Five different labels it was finally decided that it would never see the light of day due to copy write infringements.

Well not anymore...now you get to hear it and spread the word...because...

"..We danced and sang,
And the music played inna de boomtown."

Awesome Tune by TBB

Forget all your pre conceived notions about these guys......Awesome is a nice departure from the grating electro sound that the Bloody Beetroots have built their name on...yeah the tune sounds like a Justice beat...but at least they pull it off.
The Cool Kids rapping is a little hokey as usual...but it works for me on this short but sweet slow jam.

Vex'd

Recently scanning through one of my favorite graphic mag's brought to my attention the Brazilian graphic artist who calls himself Bruno 9li. His work being described as mythological, spiritual and pantheistic has caught the attention of viewers from all across the globe. He's built up solo exhibitions in Europe North America and the Far East regions of this planet. Almost perfectly fitting, Jamie Vex'd has used one of Bruno's pieces as the cover art for his In System Travel EP. The two artworks go together perfectly. Check out the album, available for purchase almost anywhere digitally, and if you can get your hands on a 12", do so. The artwork is worth having on your wall.

Here's a tune off of the EP and if it's a rainy day in your area like it is here today, this track fit's the bill perfectly.

Desto hails from Helsinki, Finland...and rolls deep with none other than Tes La Rok.
I picked up one of his 12" on Boombap! while I was in Barcelona this spring...and I'm still rinsing it. He also has releases on taste making labels such as Ramp, Noppa, & Argon.

He has a track featured on the new Red Bull Music Academy Compilation...and its one of the better tunes on the 2 disc release...

Beats Antique

BEATS ANTIQUE
, an oakland based group featuring ZOE JAKES, DAVID SATORI, AND SIDECAR TOMMY, which has stumbled down the rabbit hole and emerged anew on the other side. BEATS ANTIQUE forges a curious alliance between middle eastern traditions and potent west coast circus, underground hip hop, breakbeat brass band, downtempo, glitch and dubstep.

These cats are from the Bay Area and kill it hard. Check out their new album that just dropped July 1. It contains a free track but I suggest downloading the whole album named "Contraption" for a small cost.

Eskmo in SF

Figured I would start the month off proper with this gem by ESKMO...
Reminiscent of some of Starkey's better works.
With off kilter synths, thick sub, robotic voice samples, and crunk step drum programming this one should work nicely on the floor.
