AC Slater back in Calgary.

Just got word that AC Slater will be coming back to Calgary on Saturday, December 5 to play the Hifi Club for the first time. If the last show he had here was any indication of what to expect...then you can guarantee a complete massacre of the bass bins by all sorts original and exclusive club crushing music.

Kingdom

I was happy to stumble across this Kingdom mix for Discobelle. If you are from the Calgary area you might know that Kingdom just came through here and created an inferno that made the snow from the night before vanish in a puff of smoke!
Read the Discobelle interview because Kingdom goes through every track and gives reasons why he has included it in his October mix. The track list boasts many of the Funky producers leading the genre, such as Cooly G, Dubbel Dutch and Roska and of course Rinseout favorites, Nightslugs.
So sit back and enjoy. Below are some of the pictures from our little night of Canadian Mayhem when Brooklyn and Calgary collided.

New GLK!

The Mother F@cking Gaslamp Killer has easily been one of my favourite new artists of 2009...his original blend of psych rock, hip hop, dubstep & beyond landed him a deal with Flying Lotus's Brainfeeder imprint, & he's been killing shows on a global scale ever since..
This one is from his debut album My Troubled Mind, & it comes courtesy of the good folks @ Rcrd.Lbl.

Ps...The Rinse Out is currently working on a GLK show for this winter...keep posted!

Le Future Beats...

These next tracks are by two emerging beatmakers Tiago & Humanleft respectively.
I'm not gonna go in to why these tunes are amazing...or how unique they are.
All I know is that they both clap hard, & are exactly what I want to hear right now... I plan on playing a lot more of this sound.

Dub FX

I happened to stumble upon this video today and thought 'I really feel sorry for the other dude who was busking on the same cornor as this guy?'

The streets of the UK are apparently alive with the sounds of music, made by the voice of Dub FX, looped with a Roland peddle.

After watching, just be thankful that your main source of income is not busking while this dude is around. Enjoy!

Moderat meets Headhunter

This was the first song I heard this morning when I got to work...and when that sub hit me I was almost sick from the vertigo.
I'm not joking...Headhunter kills this remix of Moderat with quite possibly the largest / cleanest sub bass of 2009 thus far.
Regardless of this largeness, Headhunter respects the integrity of the original and in no way tries to turn this into a "banger". Well done.

Not big...Massive!!!
Moderat - A New Error (Headhunter's Answr Error Mix)

Buy the full release @ Boomkat that also features an amazing Shackleton remix, and a smooth / shuffley dubtechno reworking by T++.

MJ Cole and Zed Bias

It was the end of one era and the beginning of something new when I first heard garage. Being an idealistic teenager fenced in by rules of them vs us I viewed it as mainstream and shiny. But, sadly, you can't be a rude gyal forever. My gun finger has arthritis, I am retiring my 'BOHS' and 'BRAAAPPPSSS' for a night of 2 steppy beats where I can Flex my arthritic knees and maybe order a glass of sherry while I am at it.

So in honor of my dance dance revolution I have decided to kill two birds with one stone. Here is an MJ Cole song remixed by Zed Bias which is a bit more on a soca/dancehall/funky tip. If you follow these two on Twitter big things are going to be blowing up for them this year. They made their mark heavily back in the early 2000's and I think that there is going to be repeat destruction for 2010!

Bruk out with a former rudegyal on the dancefloor.

Modern Math gets Audited.

This week at Modern Math we have special guest Audit, joining myself, Mr Geography, & Thief onstage for our week 3 follow up to those 2 massive opening nights down at the Lord Nelson.

Audit has been in western Canada's underground music community for ages...and is no selector to be taken lightly. He originally started out as a drummer playing in punk bands in the mid 90's, before moving on to Hip Hop production and djing...He played the first 7 consecutive Shambhala Music Festivals, and has showcased his sound all over North America and toured New Zealand.

He has releases on labels including Good Groove, Westway, East, & Punchout Records. With forthcoming on Air, and Breakbeat Paradise amongst others.

Audit has developed a signature sound all his own that plays on a mixture of hip hop, funk, breaks, dubstep and classic boogie jams.

He just sent me his latest mix and a gem of a tune for y'all to enjoy.

His production skills have been really impressive as of late... and this tune is proof.

Landstrumm eats your breakfast.

Neil Landstrumm has consistently been one of my favourite producers over the past few years...he has the ability to make every genre he dabbles in better than many specialists. All the while never sounding like a plagiarist.
He recently released Bambaataa Eats His Breakfast on Planet Mu...along with Falty DL's recent release on PM...its easily my favourite release of 2009 for this tastemaking label.
If you like your beats broken, splintered, reconstructed, crunkified, purplefied, analog bass heavy & wonky amongst so many other descriptives ...then I highly recommend getting the full release here.

Enjoy this one...its a masterpiece.

New Joy Orbison

Here is the latest offering from Joy Orbison, aka the dubstep guy that is getting love from all the disco blogs for his freshman release on Scuba's Hotflush imprint.
Hyph Mngo is one of the best tunes of 2009, so this attention is understandable.
With the upcoming launch of his own label Doldrums, expect nothing but big things from Joy Orb in 2010.
Exciting music.

The Rinse Out presents: Egyptrixx

This weekend's gonna be off the chain. The Rinse Out's repping two massive shows: Kush Arora & MC Zulu on Friday and Toronto's Egyptrixx this Sunday. Egyptrixx is set to explode Fall 2009, with Ep's dropping on Night Slugs (home of L-Vis 1990 & Bok Bok), Ramp Records and Van's Aufect Records. Egyptrixx toured Europe with L-Vis and Bok Bok earlier this year. Maybe he can coax the Night Slugs cats into making the trek across the pond.

Come to Habitat Living Sound on the 18 and shake your butt to some super fine funky and dubstep. Piranha Piranha's Mr. Geography is warming tings up with extra support from PK Sounds Fat Pat. Pilsner tall cans are $5 all night long. Facebook Event hurr.

Here's an Egyptrixx track that tore up the blogospere summer 2009. Big thanks to Egyptrixx for providing a juicy 320 file. Turn it up!

Girl You So Fine

Joker just dropped his latest remix, this time venturing even more into the realm of mainstream with his purplefied treatment of Sean Paul.
Regardless, Joker's production is extra crisp on this one-with some of his best synth work to date...you can guarantee this will get the ladies moving.

Catch Joker in Vancouver with our mates the Lighta! Crew on Thursday, November 26.

We've all heard and love L-Vis's first version of this remix that just dropped on one of 2009's best labels Sound Pellegrino...here is the video for the VIP remix that has yet to leak on blog world...The tune is dope...more 2 Step/Funky than his first mix.

Mondkopf Mutilation

A few months back I was diggin through a good pal of mine Sleepyhead's blog MidnightSocial and I was presented with the the sickest of weird techy downtempo tracks. I seriously love weird stuff that is produced amazingly. The track is called "Christmas" for whatever reason, but it builds up very nicely with this almost siren like synth pattern, maybe the sound toy firetruck makes as soon as it comes whistling out of the box on christmas morning..? .  Anyways it's one of my fav's for the past while for sure. Being the first track brought to my attention by the young producer left a giant stone with the name Mondkopf writting on it permanently perched on the 3rd shelf of my brain. Sooo when I saw that there was a new mix available and that it was titled "Sounds of Mutilation Mix" I IMMEDIATELY grabbed it. I've listened to the mix a bunch of times now and the beginning 3 minute intro never gets old, followed by one of the softest and hardest pounding kicks you've ever heard, building more and more and more!

Enough about the mix, you'll just have to hear it! It's bonkers.. trust me. If you wanna check out some more of this 23 year old Parisians work, go here or here or even here.

Memory Park

dBridge is giving away this track for free on soundcloud...170 or 85bpm seems to be one of my favourite speeds as of late. This is a roller.
dBridge - Memory Park by dBridge

Just For You..

I've been meaning to do a post on Roska for minute now... and it wasn't until I stumbled across his new podcast for XLR8R that I remembered to get on it...

Roska is the current poster boy of UK Funky, a mutant hybrid genre of Dubstep & Funky House that has taken clubs by storm in the 2nd half of 2009.
Regardless of the fact that this relatively new sub genre has already been banned in some London area clubs...its popularity on this side of the Atlantic is just starting to mature.

This remix of Untold is one of my favourite tracks at the moment. Simple percussion, ultra clean sub bass, & orgasmic female vocal stabs make this one Funky tune not to be slept on.

Untold - Just For You (Roska Remix)

Here's the video for "In Your Handbag", the tune that put both Roska & the Funky sound on the global map.
