Just peeped this youtube link, new Self Evident remix! Totally hype, it has that 8 bitty type synth structure to it with the ever present simplicity that Ben tends to write so well! Enjoy! I've listened to it over and over this morning!
Shackleton is a true dubstep/electronic music pioneer...his legendary label Skull Disco(RIP), featured some of the most progressive and original sounds to emerge from the UK underground over the last decade. This is his first North American tour..and we are lucky enough to have him joining us here in Calgary this Saturday!
His recent Three EPs release was easily one of my favorite listens of 2009...get the full ep here.
Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door. Event Page
This Friday at ModernMath we have got 2 very special guests joining from across the pond...Aries & Tuffist!
Its a bit of a reunion for myself...I met Tuffist in Barcelona, Spain last spring..where he hooked me up with a set on his weekly SubFM show...and showed me the best sides of that beautiful city.
Tuffist, a Brooklyn native, has been an active part of the legendary Konkrete Jungle organization for more than 10 years. He has released vinyl on Cause and Effect Records, and boasts a slew of killer dub plates, some of which are scheduled for release on Chopstick Dubplate and Little Island Records next summer. In recent years, Tuffist has been based in Barcelona where he holds a residency at B-Low, the cityʼs top Dubstep event. Tuffist is also part of a weekly program on the worldʼs #1 rated Dubstep radio station, WWW.SUB.FM.
Aries is a UK based Drum & Bass, Jungle and Dubstep DJ/Producer. He has been enjoying bass culture music since 1990 and hasn't looked back since. Taking his name from his star sign his main influences are Roots and Dub Reggae which will come as no surprise if you listen to his music or have heard him play out. His music is unique and offers soul and depth that not only makes people think and listen but holds its weight and has maximum impact on the dance floor.
They put together a couple solid promo mixes for this tour...jugglist, and real dubstep heads don't sleep on this show...these cats know whats up...and tickets are a steal at only $10...Seen!
Mr Geography is back from Jamaica with some fresh new 45's...and we've got 2 of our good mates Sleepyhead & Droobius joining us for a well proper jam down at the Lord Nelson.

Due to forces beyond our control (aka some asshole stealing Emalkay's passport/money in NYC)...we regret to announce that Emalkay will not be able to join us at Modern Math tomorrow night for our We Love Bass massive. He has been forced to cancel the remainder of his tour and will be returning home to the UK asap.
We are as bummed about this as you are...and we wish Emalkay the best...make up dates have already been secured..so keep it locked here for more info.
Despite this last minute disappointment...we were able to scramble and come up with a more than suitable replacement...Noah D! Here is a recent live mix of his to get you warmed up... GetDarkerTV 035 - Noah D by noahd
I honestly couldn't think of a better contingency plan...tickets are still available at Giant 45 and Grassroots...this is gonna be dope!
Joining Noah D(SF), we've also got King Cannibal(UK), Freaky Flow(LA), MC Think Tank(Van), Piranha Piranha, Lorne B, Slim Pickens and more...
Got this tune last week...and really wanted to post it, but was holding off because of the unreleased nature of the tune...you know we love Breakage here at TRO...and this tune is a gem of course. Digital Soundboy just gave the go ahead to post this tune as a free dl via their twitter. So here ya go...
Our good friend Mat the Alien just released his first solo ep on Saedos Records, and its a banger. I knew he had been djing dubstep for awhile now...but had no idea he was about to drop a world class ep...big ups MTA! I'm loving the steel drum vibe in Boarding Call...
Here's a couple nice free tunes courtesy of the good people at Pollinate Records.
"Jumping Back Slash begins a series of bonus bangers. A selection of tunes with a classic analogue feel and spaced out Kwaito groove."
The tracks are called IBHITHI One and Two...IBHITHI translates in to beat in the isiXhosa language. These are some killer Kwaito tracks, get on the download:
If your a regular reader of our blog...you probably know that I'm a sucker for the Wu Tang Clan... I recently left Liquid Swords in my car stereo for a full month while I rediscovered the second half of the album. This Sunday another member of the Wu rolls through town for a show at the Distillery. Raekwon is on tour in support of his new album, the highly anticipated sequel to 1995's masterpiece, Only Built 4 Cuban Linx.
Our good friend and collaborator Rasul Syed aka Mango Lassi has been touring with the Chef on the Western Canada leg of the tour - and by the sounds of things has been bruising it nicely in the opening slot. Rasul is giving his latest creation, the Conversation ep away for free download...If your into Talib Kweli, I highly recommend grabbing this tasty little 7 packer, you may be surprised to learn that such quality hip hop is coming out of cowtown at the moment.
This promises to be one of the biggest Modern Math special events to date...We are super excited to have UK dubstep powerhouse Emalkay (Dub Police) in the house, alongside King Cannibal (Ninja Tune/UK), Canadian jungle legend Freaky Flow, and a stacked locals lineup.
Get their early to insure entry... Tickets are in store at Giant 45...check the Facebook event for more info.
