Headhunter Comes to Calgary!!

This spring has been an extra special one for us (event wise) here at TheRinseOut/Modern Math...and this Friday promises to be another one for the books...

Over the last 2 months we have hosted 2 of our all time favorite artists RSD, & Breakage down to our weekly Friday night social...aka Modern Math...both shows were top notch, of course.

This Friday we complete what we have coined the "holy trinity" of guests to our humble stage when we welcome none other than Headhunter aka Addison Groove to the Lord Nelson.

Before I get into Headhunter and this show on Friday...I just want to clarify what we mean by "Holy Trinity"...basically when we started this night...we talked about future guests we hoped to host - these 3 artists topped the list...and when looking back on the sound the night has come to be known for...no 3 artists have had a bigger impact than RSD, Breakage, & Headhunter on our weekly playlists...basically they are our favorite dubstep artists on the planet...and it has/will be our utmost pleasure to have hosted all three this spring/summer 2010.

Headhunter slays...we all know this...every genre he touches whether its traditional dubstep, techno, or more recently juke turns to gold...his production value is right up there with some of the greats...and have landed him remix/collab jobs with some of our other heroes Modeselektor/Moderat amongst others.

This Friday marks Tony's first visit to Calgary...come and show him why Calgary has quickly become a global hotspot for touring bass djs...
Tickets are $15 in advance at Giant 45/Grassroots...more at the door.
Facebook Event.

Here is a tune of his that came out in 2007...I put it on the first dubstep mix I ever did...and its one of those tunes that never gets old for me...

Max Ulis & The Librarian this Friday!

We are super excited about the lineup this Friday at Modern Math!
Its the first time we welcome one of our best mates around, Max Ulis (Lighta!/Vancouver) to come slay the masses at the Lord Nelson.

We've had just about every other member of the Lighta! Crew roll through- so its about time we bring out the co-founder himself...

Max kills it every time he comes to town...but I get this feeling that this week is gonna be extra special!

Max's productions have been tearing up dance floors for several years now...and we hear his debut album is almost finished...so expect even bigger tings in the coming decade from the man Skream calls, "the handsomest dj in Canada".
Bold statement I know...I think our own Mr Geography gives him a run for his money pon dat.

dl - PJ Harvey - Slow Drug(Max Ulis Remix)

Joining Maximus on the bill is, The Librarian, founder/ head organizer of the west coasts latest and greatest festival, the Basscoast Project, held every July in Squamish, BC.
Basscoast received rave reviews(no pun intended) last year by all accounts we heard...
Some of us here at TRO are attending/performing Basscoast this summer...and we are looking forward to finding out what all the hype is about!

Cover this Friday is $10 before 11pm...and $12 after...see you on the floor!

Fever Ray (Piranha Piranha Remix)

I just couldn't resist doing a remix of Fever Ray after seeing her/them live at Coachella last month. When we got down to work on it, we decided to make a jump up/dnb remix of it cause we've been playing more jungle tempo tunes lately...and wanted some of our own to rinse.
This is the first time we have ever made drum & bass...and gotta say...we had a lot of fun with it...don't be surprised if we make some more right away...

Visit Piranha Piranha on the m space...

Warrior One - Bad Like Jimmy Cliff VIP

Warrior one was nice enough to provide for download the VIP remix of "Bad like Jimmy Cliff" with accompanying vocals by funky bashment spear headers Lady Chann, J2K, Rubi Dan, and Serocee. Having a love for the following three components: Ninja Man, Jimmy Cliff, The Harder They Come. I needed to post a re-twist on a song that I can't stop dancing to.

So, when you struttin' down the street thinking to yourself "Me a bad man" just remember this...

...there is someone badder than you, and his name is "Jimmy Cliff"

And just for some general mimicry to get that swagga' down.

Shuttle(Ninja Tune) next Wednesday...

Wednesday May 12 is the semi / unofficial launch of TheRinseOut's new residency at the Hifi Club, Northern Lights!

Not gonna talk too much about this big happening...but you heard it first here..
Starting immediately some of TheRinseOut DJ's (Dan Solo, Mr Geography & guests) will be found every Wednesday at Calgary's most fly discotecha, the Hifi Club!
More details coming soooon!
We are pumped!

That aside...we are double excited to be playing with Bostons Shuttle next week at the club.

I caught some of his other projects set at Coachella a few weeks back..it was great!
Shuttle plays drums for and co produced the debut record of a little band called Passion Pit.

His solo project is signed to trailblazing label, Ninja Tune, & his sound varies from gritty yet club friendly dubstep, to off kilter broken beat downtempo and electro.

Facebook Event

"Born and raised in Southern Maryland, introduced to the electronic sounds in the D.C. and Baltimore clubs growing up, Shuttle found a home for his original sounds amongst the underground Boston musical scene. His unique live shows are now all but infamous within the tightly knit Basstown crew. Their all night parties fuel Boston's underground music culture with Shuttle's insatiable sounds and the thrill of no tomorrow at the forefront of every show.

The Basstown crew are not the only notables for which Shuttle has shared a stage, recent luminaries include: Devlin (Spank Rock), Yelle, Crystal Castles, Diplo, and Caspa. His remix credits are equally as credible and diverse including commissioned remixes of Phoenix, Micachu, and rockers The Death Set.

While still at school Shuttle honed his production skills devouring anything remotely considered listenable. Armed just with his laptop, he began making remixes of his favorite sounds of the day. These bedroom remixes caught the attention of the influential and tastemakers label, Ninja Tune. His critically acclaimed debut release “Tunnel” drew comments such as “this will stand as one of the best electronic singles of 2009” from Pop Matters and was named as Sasha Frere Jones’ number 1 song of 2009. Shuttle, not to rest on his production and DJ talents, also plays drums and co-produced the debut record for the new darlings of the indie scene Passion Pit."
