Legendary quintet Anti Pop Consortium are appearing this Wednesday night at our mid week residency Northern Lights as part of the Sled Island Festival.
High Priest, Beans, M. Sayyid, and Earl Blaize are a New York slam poetry happenstance turned hip-hop underground phenomena. These cats push the envelope on experimental heads and earn respect from the B-boys, and fans of quality music in general.
Piranha Piranha will be playing a late set following the show...message us on facebook to get guest spots.
Huge party in Vancouver this Saturday at open studios! I'm excited for a number of reasons... 1. I get to play with my Lighta! comrades on their home turf for the first time. 2. DJG is one of my favorite artists at the moment...and I hear he is an absolute badman on the set. 3. Open studios is where I was first introduced to dubstep about 6 years ago, & its the best venue in Vancouver for this sort of thing. 4. Vancouver is my other home town...and I can't wait to see all the peoples that I've been missing since I was last there...
Along with myself and DJG, repping the Lighta! Crew will be: Taal Mala + Max Ulis (tag team set), Phowa, Calamalka (live P.A. set), & Daega Sound.
Its only 20 bucks at the door...and goes till it ends..brap!
Check this tune of DJG's below...it a bit older, but a classic none the less...I picked it up in Barcelona last year...can't wait to hear all the new heat Dean and the rest of the boys will be throwing down!
This Wednesday we welcome one of our best mates/one of the best djs in the world to our new residency Northern Lights at the Hifi Club. Mat the Alien kills it every time he steps pon the decks...and we love any chance we get to play with the man like MTA cause he is pretty much the best dude ever!
I'm playing at spirit bar in Nelson, BC this Thursday night with good mate of the TheRinseOut, Dj Dubconscious...its gonna be a good one...even if its on a somber day.
Going out to another fallen friend...Josh Evin...RIP Brother.
This is a free event...so if your in the area come feel the vibes. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Josh Evin's part in Premium Skateboards Unfazed Video

This weekend is gonna be something special! Gaslamp Killer aswell as Falty DL at the same party! I'd say a definate leader in forward moving shows to hit the Calgary bass music scene. Gas Lamp Killer is sure to impress.. I would definately guarantee that he will bring sounds that you've NEVER heard before! Alongside, NY's own Falty DL -TRO long time fav!!*- ... I get really excited for these shows at the HIFI. this kind of thing will blow people's minds!! See ya there.
Check this wan.. first chune he drops is madness for all you bass heads!
Where did the name “The Motherfucking Gaslamp Killer” come from?
"I got my start deejaying in the gaslamp district of san diego. its where all the pretty people like to go to look at each other and get drunk in there button up silk shirts and high heel shoes. they dont go out to listen to music, the music is simply in the backround & “that outfit” or “thats my team” are whats important. So for the first 6 or 7 years of my musical life, i was being ignored / hated on by these fucking good looking jock morons & they're cheerleader girlfriends."
"I remember one of the first gigs i had in the gaslamp district, when the hottest girl in the whole club approached me and told me that i was ruining her night. whats new. reminds me of high school, minus the tiny paycheck i got at the end. i think force feeding the people is how i got my name. i made them all suffer for years & killed them softly i guess. now everything is the same & no one has to worry about their atmosphere being disturbed."
Asked of FaltyDL:
How did you get into making music?
"I was tired of playing bass in a jazz band…it was all very ‘jazz band’ and I needed a little more control. Now I have almost too much control. Theres no regiment anymore. Its nice."
What’s your production set up like? When did you start producing and what was your set up like then compared to now?
"Its been the same since I started pretty much. The center piece being a 6 year old Mac G5 pillared by two massive JBL 4328ps. That’s it really. I mean two Technic 1200’s and a microKontrol help also… But theres lots of vinyl… lots of vinyl…"
Coming from New York, which has its own rich garage history - all be it a very different sound to the UK 2-step garage - how did you become infatuated with the UK sound?
"Infatuated? Not sure if that’s the right word. Obsessed with? Maybe that’s better. Simply, my true love besides my girl friend… is Jungle. Jungle. Jungle. There’s shuffle in Jungle too. I don’t think a lot of kids know that. Maybe they do. But that’s the dark beauty I think about. Remarc is a bigger influence then the Artful Dodger though… haha! Although ‘Rewind’ is a good tune. Actually check Butler Kiev’s remix on Planet-Mu. Amazing… Speak and Spell action."
So there I was in Brixton at the DMZ 4th anniversary party, with my little green gameboy in hand. Happy, but a little "dubstepped out". Kode 9 was up and instead of going with the theme of the night, he laid down an old school jungle set.
Now for all of those who know me, they will know that although the camo jacket might be in storage, I am still a proud member of the Junglist Massive.
You can imagine how my inbox just blew up when Fact magazine released their Kode 9 mix for download, and knowing my love for a dirty old school amen, I had to share. It's only up for three weeks so grab it while it's hot!
